25 Years // 25 Projects – 25 Years at the Forefront of Lighting

25 Years // 25 Projects – 25 Years at the Forefront of Lighting

From iconic British landmarks to major high street retailers, Commercial Lighting Systems Ltd has developed an impressive and varied portfolio since it started in 1991. A small-scale yet highly respected manufacturer and supplier, the Southampton-based business punches above its weight in the Lighting Industry, consistently providing successful lighting solutions for projects of all types and sizes – one reason why so many clients continue to choose Commercial Lighting for their projects.

Commercial Lighting’s new book “25 Years // 25 Projects” is a beautiful testament to the company’s successful 25-year history. Betraying the company’s pride in having worked on important local heritage sites such as HMS Victory, Portsmouth Trisail and Southampton’s Tudor House, the book also reveals an extensive portfolio ranging the entire breadth of the UK, in partnership with leading lighting designers and contractors. A dramatic double spread of London’s Regent Street fills the book’s centerfold – Commercial Lighting’s award-winning exterior lighting project with Studio 29 and just one of its numerous high-profile schemes illuminating the capital’s iconic street architecture.

Having been key to the success of so many significant lighting schemes over the years, it might seem surprising the company is not more known. But, as Managing Director Phil Cutting explains in the book’s foreword, this is all part and parcel of the industry:

“Because of the nature of the industry, our involvement in projects is often complex and multifaceted, and much happens below the radar. Working indirectly through contractors and third parties often makes it hard to be credited for schemes we are most proud of. This book goes a little way to bring recognition to our work in projects in which we played a crucial role, some of which our readers may be surprised to discover.”

25 Years providing Cutting-Edge Technology

Behind the 25 selected projects is a revealing history of the exciting and radical developments in lighting technology since the 90s – from halogen, compact fluorescent and SON lamps through to modern and game-changing LED advancements. Commercial Lighting makes some impressive claims, including having provided the very first LED lighting to the retail sector, and has consistently been able to provide its clients the most up-to-date lighting technology thanks to its ability to adapt to the rapidly evolving industry.  The final pages reveal an increasingly popular trend in the company’s work – retrofitting older luminaires with cutting-edge LED technology, emphasizing Commercial Lighting’s commitment to energy efficiency as well as reducing unnecessary waste.

25 Years of Client-led Business

Increasingly sought after by clients is for individually tailored lighting solutions and, as shines through in the pages of  “25 Years // 25 Projects”, providing an individualized service has been fundamental to Commercial Lighting’s approach from the start. Whether the huge drum downlights for Westfield Shopping Centre, or the delicate feature pendants designed for private residences, much of the company’s work relies on close communication with clients and developing relationships to ensure the best solution for any given project, including developing completely bespoke products when necessary. Together with its offering of renowned exterior lighting ranges Meyer and Ares, as well as its own comprehensive interior lighting range Sovereign, one would be hard-pressed to request a lighting scheme Commercial Lighting could not deliver!

Lighting Manufacturer of Choice for 2017 and Beyond

“25 // 25 Projects” provides the assurance of a company with invaluable experience and the flexibility to adapt to a dynamic and ever-evolving industry. Now in its 26th year and with a fresh new rebrand, Commercial Lighting is increasingly in demand for both its technical expertise and high quality products. Asked about the future of Commercial Lighting, Managing Director Phil responds, “We will continue to do what we’ve done for the last 25 years – put the client first and foremost. The industry will continue to evolve and Commercial Lighting will evolve with it, and we look forward to the next 25 years.”
