Andura specified again for Regency House exterior

Andura specified again for Regency House exterior

When it came to the exterior redecoration of Regency House in Royal Leamington Spa, the freeholders of the building had no hesitation in specifying Andura Coatings once again as the external finish.

The Andura Pro-Flex high performance decorative coating lived up to its promise of complete durability over the ten year period since it was first applied on the building in 2005. Unlike many other exterior finishes, the Andura Pro-Flex technology is not only water and dirt resistant, but also has elastomeric properties giving excellent resistance to any subsequent cracks in the substrate.

Peter James, Director and Company Secretary of the Regency House Residents Association is delighted with the Pro-Flex product which was used for the second time on the building towards the end of last year, “Everyone has been wholly satisfied with the Andura coating and we unanimously agreed that we should specify Andura once again. The Pro-Flex coating bonds to the surface rather than sitting on it and is able to accommodate the different expansions and contractions evident in the building which is a mix of solid concrete, brickwork and blockwork. We have been very impressed with the longevity of the product together with Andura’s willingness to come to site to discuss our needs.”

When the earlier redecoration was undertaken, the Regency House Residents Association appointed a project management firm to oversee the project and assess various different coatings for performance over a six month period. As a result, the Andura coating was specified. For the redecoration of the building last year, the Andura coating was the automatic choice given its performance over ten years and the same project management company was engaged for tendering of the contracting work.

Specialist contractors, John Stedeford & Sons, were successful in winning the tender based on their submission and their long experience of quality work. The external decorating of the 1970s block of 60 apartments was completed in a three month period ending in September 2017. To limit disruption to the site, the contracting firm used three cherry pickers instead of scaffolding which proved to be much more flexible when applying the finish all around the building. The whole building was power washed first to remove any grime and dirt then all the windows were masked with plastic sheets before application of the Andura Pro-Flex coating. Some 1600 litres of Pro-Flex was used to cover 3220 sq.m. of exterior wall.  Mark Stedeford, one of the directors of John Stedeford & Sons commented, “We thought that the Andura product was excellent, it was a solid product and easy to apply, we will definitely use Andura’s coatings again.”

Andura’s Pro-Flex technology provides excellent long-term protection and decoration for buildings.  The elastomeric properties of Pro-Flex technology give excellent resistance to subsequent cracks in the substrate. Using the very latest advances in coatings technology, Andura has now developed Pro-Flex Ultimate which is specially formulated to combine all the benefits of Pro-Flex technology with improved breathability, water and dirt resistance for a harder wearing, longer lasting and beautiful finish to keep exterior walls in top condition. Pro-Flex is classified as ‘highly breathable’ and ‘highly water resistant’ as tested in accordance with German (DIN), European (EN) and International (ISO) standards. The addition of silicon resin and silane to Pro-Flex considerably improves resistance to dirt pick-up.
