Work starts on Reading office Conversion

Work have has started on site to convert the dated former office block ‘Berkshire House’ on Kings Road Reading into a premium student living development for Cityblock.

Berkshire House

The building, originally constructed in the early 1970s, is undergoing an extensive refurbishment and façade replacement which will bring an entirely new and contemporary visual identity to the building.

Torsion Group and WCEC Architects have been employed by CityBlock to deliver a sustainable, premium quality asset which will provide a market-leading residential offer to students in Reading.

In total, the project will deliver 129 units within the existing building and a new roof-top extension. In addition, a large amenity space will be provided at lower-ground floor level which will include study and social spaces, as well as a gym and laundry.

Trevor Bargh, managing director of CityBlock, said: “The project in Reading is an exciting development that will give students a fantastic living and learning environment. What is needed in terms of accommodation is always changing; our project team have been selected due to their proven ability to deliver successful student living projects”.

Nick Riley, Design Director and Head of Student living at WCEC Architects added, “Working with Cityblock and Torsion Group brings together a strong and trusted team, with vast experience in the sector. Our shared vision/objective is to deliver this project to the very highest standards, both in design and construction”.

“We are looking forward to seeing this project evolve in the year ahead and are confident the completed scheme will be a strong precedent in the market”.
